One of my favorite spring trees! I think this has been an exceptional year for the redbuds--mine are still holding a few buds even though they are really beginning to leaf out.
Gorgeous! I planted one in my front yard in my last house. I still can't believe the people who bought the house cut the redbud down last year. It was healthy and beautiful. At least they kept the gardens, and they still look just like when I sold the house five years ago, only everything's bigger.
I transplanted a teeny tiny redbud seedling that I brought up from Kentucky. It's hard to tell if it's doing anything right now. Redbuds are hardy to our zone (5) but you don't see many of them here in western PA.
A blog about urban gardening, houseplants, and nature in Chicago
"I only wanted to see what the garden was like, your Majesty--"
"That's right," said the Queen, patting her on the head, which Alice didn't like at all: "though, when you say 'garden'--I've seen gardens compared with which this would be a wilderness..."
I recently completed my doctorate in evolutionary biology at the University of Illinois - Chicago. Now I'm living the rural life in Colorado's Front Range with Too Much Coffee Husband, Foley the greyhound, and Sammie the Wonder Mutt.

I have one redbud but it isn't putting on as beautiful a show as yours is. Lovely tree.

Thanks! There are so many flowers we can barely see the branches. I can't take credit; the tree's doing all the work!
